On May 7, 2018, CA Immo together with Berlin's Director for Urban Development, Regula Lüscher, and the parties involved in the project celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the cube berlin office building. The ‘smart commercial building’ is currently being built on Washingtonplatz directly adjacent to Berlin's central railway station. Drees & Sommer is supporting CA Immo in the development of a holistic digitization concept for the building.
Even before its completion, the office block, an innovative construction in both technical and architectural terms, has been given wired certification of the highest category (platinum) for top standards in matters of connectivity, digital infrastructure and future reliability. The investment in the building, with more than around 17,000 sqm of rentable floor area, amounts to around EUR 100 million. The rentable space can be flexibly upgraded and can accommodate all modern office forms.
The construction of cube berlin according to a draft by 3XN Architects started at the beginning of 2017. The aim is to provide optimum support for the needs and processes of the tenants and their staff members through intelligent technologies, while optimizing the running of the building through the networking of all technical systems in an artificial intelligence ‘brain’ and the use of sensors. For the tenants cube berlin can be completely ‘serviced’ through an app developed in cooperation with the proptech start-up Thing-It. This includes the control of indoor climate and access control, but also all services like a parcel station or optional components such as room bookings or hot desking. cube berlin will be completed at the end of 2019 after a construction period of almost three years.
